Overcoming Barriers to Workplace Inclusion

How do we overcome barriers to inclusion?  Most humans would like to think that we are bias free; we are not. The eyes are almost always looking outward.  We believe  the solution to uncovering our biases, prejudices, and preconceptions is to first look inward.  We must uncover and accept our own biases  before we can change them.  Overcoming Barriers to Workplace Inclusion is a two-part introduction into the process of uncovering and managing biases at work.  In part one, participants are asked to create an "identity set" and examine how membership to various groups influenced their own lives; to explore personal privilege and disadvantage; and to practice grounding techniques that aid in inward exploration

Part Two Overcoming Barriers....

In part-two,  participants are asked to create an "auto-bio sketch" of their interactions around differences.  This requires a lot of vulnerability on the part to the participants and can help develop empathy within the team.  Participants are asked to recount actual events/stories in their lives where conflicts across difference occurred and to share these events in a safe environment using "the power of the pause."
